Request Your GP to Send Prescriptions Electronically

With so many new technologies and innovations, it has now become possible for your GP to send prescriptions electronically to the chemist you prefer. And this is possible due to the NHS Electronic Prescription Service (EPS).
The NHS Electronic Prescription Service allows your GP practice to send prescriptions electronically, so there is no need of using a paper prescription. This cuts down the number of visits you pay to your GP’s office just to collect a paper script when you need a repeat prescription to get your medicine.
To allow your GP to send prescription electronically, you must nominate a pharmacy first. The electronic prescription service can be used for repeat prescription as well as single prescription. The pharmacy you nominate will collect your electronic prescription on the behalf of you from your GP.
In the UK, many GPs and pharmacies offer the NHS Electronic Prescription Service. Your prescriptions will be sent electronically to your nominated pharmacy if your GP also offers the service. Your prescribing GP will explain you when to use this service.
Although the service means there is no need to visit your GP to collect a paper prescription when you need your repeat medicine, you must check with your doctor for medical assessment, when required.
How to nominate a pharmacy? Typically, there are two ways of nominating a pharmacy:
  1. Request your GP to record nomination on behalf of you
  2. Nominate an online pharmacy by creating an account directly on the website or in perso
Your GP can send prescriptions electronically for single prescription as well. You will be able to continue re-ordering your regular medicine from an online chemist such as Pharmacy Outlet to fulfil your repeat prescription. What’s more, you get your medicine right at your doorstep, without any extra cost.
The NHS Electronic Prescription Service is safe, reliable and confidential. Only your GP and your pharmacist can see your prescription to dispense and deliver your medicine.
